Mrs Sarah Simmonds at Ubley (1823-1911): age 83, 2 songs on 24 Apr 1906: Sarah was born Sarah Sellick and baptised at Ubley church 23/3/1823, daughter of Robert, labourer and Mary. She was absent from the family in 1841 and had probably gone into domestic service in London.

She married Joseph Simmonds and the couple were in service to a solicitor William Smale in Kensington in 1851. They had a daughter Frances. In 1861 Joseph had set up as a French polisher in Kensington and they now had a son George. The couple were in the Chelsea area of London in both 1881 and 1891, Joseph still working as a French polisher. He died in 1896 and after 50 years in London, Sarah returned to Ubley village to live with her spinster sister Ann Sellick (1901 ref RG13/2329 f16 p7). Sarah was buried at Ubley 20/2/1911.
