Anna Abbott of East Coker (1829-?): age 79, 1 song (FT1778) on 10 Aug 1908: Sharp recorded her as ‘Anna’ but in all records she was plain ‘Ann’. Ann Gear was baptised at East Coker church on 18/10/1829, daughter of Charles Gear, weaver and his wife Phyllis. On 15/2/1848 she married William Abbott, weaver, son of George Abbott, weaver. Neither William nor Ann could sign their name. They lived at Burton hamlet, part of East Coker, and raised 6 children. William died in Jan qr 1898 and Ann went into the almshouses that still stand on the left hand side as you approach the church of St Michael. She was there in 1911 census. She probably died 1914.
