John Bradley at Coates, Glos (1872-1965): age 40, 1 song (‘Dilly song’ FT2758) on 31 March 1912: Sharp was probably staying again with Mr & Mrs Swanwick at Coates (3 miles W of Cirencester) when he met John Bradley. In his field notebook (Tunes) he recorded John’s age as 40. There were no ‘Bradleys’ in Coates at all in 1911. The singer is probably John Bradley of Gloster Street Cirencester, who made the short trip out to Coates to see Sharp.

Bradley was born 12/2/1872 in Cirencester and baptised there 12/5/1872, son of Richard and Elizabeth Bradley. On 9/11/1895 at Cirencester he married Flora Mills. They had 3 children. In the 1901 census (RG14/2448 f87 p7) and in 1911 he was listed as a carter working for the Urban District Council. In 1939 he was a park-keeper. He died January qr 1965 (Cirencester 7b 407).
