Charles Norris at Shapwick railway station (1862-1927): age 44, 3 songs (FT2176ff) on 15 Apr 1909: Charles was not a railway worker. In 1911 census (RG14/14541 schedule 103) he was 48, a farm labourer, living at Oxenpill, a hamlet just outside Meare Village, 3 miles west of Glastonbury. The (now disused) railway line from Glastonbury to Burnham (opened 1858) had stops at Ashcott and Shapwick. The latter station was actually on Shapwick Heath outside the village and only a mile from Oxenpill. Charles may have been a passenger or even toiling in the fields, when he met Sharp.

Charles was baptised on 30/11/1862 at Meare, eldest child of James Norris, labourer and wife Elizabeth. He does not seem to be directly related to singer Samuel Norris. He never married and was an agricultural labourer all his life. Charles died October qr 1927 aged 64 (5c 474).
