Alfred Cripps at Shipley (1874-1939): age 34, 3 songs (FT1661,1667/8) on 20/21 April 1908: Alfred Cripps was born in July qr 1874 (Horsham 2b 288), 4th of 9 children of John Cripps, carrier and farmer, and his wife Harriet. He married Lizzie Garrett on 7/11/1896 at Lower Beeding, Sussex. They had a daughter Winifred. Alfred was a blacksmith but also the innkeeper of The Blacksmith’s Arms in Shipley (1901 census RG13/948 f5 p2). He died on 12/4/1939 at Steyning, Sussex, leaving £986.
