Robert Douglas at Newcastle Union Workhouse (c1843-1925?): age 68, 2 songs (FT2528-29) on 2 Sept 1910: Robert Douglas was born in Banff, Scotland c1843. His occupation, according to the 1911 workhouse census (RG14/30614 p17), was ‘house joiner’.

He was a boarder, aged 26, joiner, single, in Wharncliffe Rd, Elswick in 1871. He and his wife Elizabeth and 3 children (Annie 7, George 4, Elizabeth 2) were at Gosforth St, Byker in 1881. He was listed as a joiner, born Banff; Elizabeth was from North Shields. In 1891 the family were in Bewis St, Gateshead. Elizabeth must have died in the 1890s, for Robert was a widower on his own at Coxlodge in 1901. It’s not yet known when Robert died.
