Henry Hodge at Meshaw, North Devon (1847-?): age 57, 1 song on 12 Jan 1904: Henry’s song was ‘The Foggy Dew’ (FT 51b). Click vwml link above. Henry Hodge was born c1847 at Bampton in Devon, 4th child of John Hodge, a lime quarry labourer and his wife Selway. He was a farm boy, aged 14, on a farm at East Anstey in 1861 and then a farm servant to singer William Nott at Meshaw in 1871. In January qr 1875 he married Mary Fook, who was 12 years older than him. They had no children. In both 1891 and 1901 censuses Henry was a ‘road contractor (worker)’ at Meshaw (1901 ref RG13/2139 f70 p8). It’s not known when Henry died.
