Tom Ison at Ely workhouse: age 66, 4 songs FT2668ff on 12 Sept 1911: In the 1911 Ely workhouse census (p10) Thomas Ison was listed as age 66, single, former agricultural labourer, born Fulbourn. This gives a birth date of c1845. It’s likely that in 1901 at Fulbourn a Thomas Ison, boarder, single, labourer aged 55 is the same person but information earlier than this is unclear.

No baptism has been found to match the singer. It’s possible that his surname might have been recorded as ‘Ireson’. More research is required. The death of a Thomas Ison was registered at Ely for October qr 1919 age 73 (3b 561) and this does look probable for our singer.
