Jacob was an agricultural labourer all his life, living at West Hay, a small village NW of Meare. He married Elizabeth Callow, daughter of James Callow, labourer at Meare church on 22/10/1857. Neither could sign their name. They had 8 children. Elizabeth died in Nov 1897 but Jacob lived on till Aug 1913.
