John Jennings of Steeple Claydon morris: age 73. According to Sharp’s Folk Dance Notes vol4/86 Jennings played piccolo for the Steeple Claydon morris side and also took part in their Mummers play. The dancing was at Xmas time. He played several dance airs for Sharp on 8 Sept 1922 and recommended him to interview John ‘Inward’ (see separate profile ‘Inwood’).

John Jennings was born in January qr 1850 and spent his whole life in Steeple Claydon. He was the 5th child of William Jennings, agricultural labourer and his wife Mary. John became a brickyard labourer. He and his wife Elizabeth had 6 children but lost 2 in infancy. John died in October qr 1931 aged 81 (3a 1173).
