John Chapman of Dunster (1844-1919): age 63, 2 songs 12 Sept 1906: John Chapman was baptised at Dunster church on 28/1/1844, son of James Chapman, labourer and wife Mary, living at Stanton (a hamlet just outside Dunster). John married Ann Hollowman (originally from Watchet) at Dunster church on 29/4/1865. Neither could sign their names. They lived first at Stanton, then at Alcombe, raising 5 children.

Ann died in March 1885 aged 47 but John was soon remarried on 28/11/1885 to Ann Cobley, 32 from Minehead, a spinster and daughter of a sailor. They had a daughter then a son together. John was listed as a shepherd aged 57, in the 1901 census (RG13/2262 f31 p29) with wife Ann 51 and son James 8. Sadly Ann died in 1902 and James was living as a widower in the Old School House in Alcombe in 1911 with daughter Ellen and son-in-law Henry. John probably died Mar 1919 Williton 5c 414.
