John Haste of Broomfield (1848-1925): age 57, 3 songs (FT786-8) on 15 Jan 1906: Sharp records meeting John at Enmore but that might have been by arrangement with Rev Sorby, vicar of Enmore. John actually lived in Broomfield. He was born in Oct 1848 (ref Bridgwater Dist 10 318), the son of Isaac Haste, labourer and his wife Caroline. John said that he learned one of his songs 'The Mermaid' from his father.

On 10/4/1871 at Enmore church he married Sarah Seymour, daughter of Henry Seymour, labourer. The couple had 12 children but 3 died young. John Haste was an agricultural labourer and spent nearly all his life in Broomfield village. In 1901 the couple were at Cox’s Mill in Broomfield (RG13/2281 f31 p6). Wife Sarah died in June 1909 but John lived on, supported by his daughters and died Sept qr 1925 (age 76, Bridgwater 5c 313).
