Kelly, James

Singer

Collection date: Sept 1908

Area: London

James Kelly at Marylebone workhouse: age 68, 3 songs over 3 visits commencing 25 Sept 1908:

One of his songs 'The Kerry Recruit' (FT1933) might suggest an Irish background for this singer but Sharp did not indicate this. There are no James Kellys in either the 1901 or 1911 Marylebone workhouse censuses. There was a James Kieley on p33 in 1911 census, a carpenter, but his age then was 62 (i.e. 59 in 1908, which is wide of Sharp's report of age 68).

Biographical details therefore are yet to be researched
