Mrs Elizabeth Coles of Nether Stowey (1832-1910): age 76, 3 songs 10 Aug 1906: Elizabeth was baptised Elizabeth Palmer on 13/5/1832 at Over Stowey church. She was the daughter of William Palmer, labourer and his wife Mary. The baptism register states that they were living at Adscombe, a hamlet just to the south of Over Stowey village.

On 14/10/1858 at Over Stowey church Elizabeth married Clement Coles, son of Thomas Coles, labourer. They lived initially (1861) at Plainsfield, also south of Over Stowey and moved back to Adscombe (1881) to look after Clement’s aged father. They had no children themselves. Clement himself died in 1883 aged 51 and in 1901, aged 69 Elizabeth was shown as a servant at Hockpit Farm, which lies between the villages of Over Stowey and Nether Stowey (ref RG13/2280 f88 p1). That is perhaps where Sharp found her in 1906. Elizabeth probably died Jan qr 1910 age 79 (ref 5c 237).
