Mrs (Emma) Coles of Over Stowey (1867-1951): age 46, 2 songs? 19 Jly 1913: Sharp seems to have collected 1 song ‘Poor Couple’ (FT2871) directly from Emma Coles but also received another song ‘Twankydillo’ (FT2870) from her via Miss Sorby. Anyway he noted that Mrs Coles lived at Bincombe, Over Stowey and that her maiden name was Wooley. This can only be Emma Coles, aged 34 in the 1901 census for Over Stowey (RG13/2280 f89 p3), living with her husband James Coles and their 2 children in the house of her father William Woolley, blacksmith. Emma Woolley was baptised at Stogursey church on 25/7/1867, daughter of William & Elizabeth Woolley. She married James Coles at St Mary’s Bridgwater on 25/10/1894 and they had 2 children. She was a laundress. Emma died October qr 1951 aged 87 (7c 108).
