Maria Meecham of Merriott (1825-1911): age 79, 2 songs (FT597/8) on 24 Aug 1905: Maria Meecham was baptised on 29/12/1825 in North Perrott church, daughter of John Meecham (labourer) and Mary.

Maria never married but went into domestic service. In 1861 and 1871 censuses she was the only servant to Samuel Lawrence, brewer and landowner in Merriott. In 1881, 1891 and 1901 she was servant and sole companion of Samuel’s spinster daughter Mary Ann Lawrence. When he died in 1878, Samuel must have left an allowance to keep his daughter in funds. She is described as an annuitant in 1881. Maria died 7/2/1911 in North Perrott after 50 years of service to the same family.
