Mrs Elizabeth Stanley at Spaxton: age 50? 2 songs 'Bowl of Brandy' and 'Barney' (FT1564/5) on 8 Jan 1908: It seems that Sharp interviewed Mrs Stanley first and came back the following day to meet Thomas Stanley. Sharp noted that the Stanleys were ‘gipsies’ and they are not found in either the 1901 nor 1911 censuses in Spaxton (nor indeed anywhere else!). Sharp suggests that Mrs Stanley was about 50 years of age. In his field notebook (Tunes) Sharp confirms the couple are called Thomas and Elizabeth Stanley (CJS1/9/2/1908/1 p12). Further biographical information is not possible at this stage.
