Sarah Ann Palfrey at Rackenford, North Devon (1845-1920): age 59, 3 songs (FT484-6) on 6 Jan 1905: Sharp wrote ‘Anne’ but all records show no ‘e’. Sarah Ann Wynn was born c1845 in Rackenford, 2nd daughter of John Wynn and his wife Susan. She was older sister to singer Emma (Fook). Sarah had 2 daughters of her own out of wedlock – Eva b1866 and Bessie b1870. She had tried to find work as a domestic servant in Tiverton (1871 census) but had to entrust Eva to her parents for a time.

She married Lewis Palfrey, carpenter and shopkeeper in Apr qr 1876 (ref 5b 781) and she was reunited with her 2 children in their new home in Rackenford (1881 census). She and Lewis had no children of their own. Some of her Wynn relatives were boarders in Sarah’s house in the 1901 census (ref RG13/2140 f32 p1), as was (singer) William Cockram. Sarah died on 29/12/1920 at Rackenford, leaving £40.
