Richard Marley of Exford (1853-1935): age '58', 1 song ‘Sweet Nightingale’ (FT1452) on 30 Aug 1907: Richard Marley was born c1853, son of Richard Marley Snr, agricultural labourer and his wife Mary. Richard Jr spent his whole life in Chibbet Ford, a mile and a half west of Exford. He was a labourer and a bachelor, aged 48 in the 1901 census (RG13/2266 f122 p18). He had a lodger and a housekeeper Annie Morgan Reed, by whom he had a child Richard (b1901). They were married on 27/5/1905 at Exford church and they had 5 more children in quick succession. Richard may well have been surrounded by young children when Sharp met him. He was an agricultural labourer all his life and died October qr 1935 aged 83 (Dulverton 5a 311).
