Harry Sampson at Bishops Nympton, North Devon (1863-1925): age 41, 1 song 11 Jan 1904: Henry (Harry) Sampson was born in Jan qr 1863 at Bishops Nympton, the youngest of 6 children of William Sampson, agricultural labourer and his wife Ann. William died in 1867, when Henry was just 4.

Ann was a laundress in the 1871 census and all her children had left home except Harry. He too was set to work as a farm servant in 1881 census but then married Elizabeth Kingdon, a domestic servant in Jan qr 1886 (S Molton 5b 699). They had 12 children, of whom 4 died young. Harry was a road contractor all his working life (1901 census ref is RG13/2139 f34 p5). He died 18/3/1925 at East Wood Farm, Bishops Nympton, leaving £305 to his widow Elizabeth.
