William Burland of Stogursey (1830-1913): age 76, 8 songs on 11 Aug 1906: William Burland was baptised at Stogursey church on 10/10/1830, son of James Burland, labourer of Burton (hamlet just outside Stogursey) and his wife Elizabeth. On 23/6/1855 at Stogursey he married Frances Toms, daughter of William Toms, builder. They had 10 children and lived in the High Street in the village. In 1871 William was listed as a ‘master baker’ and in 1881 as a baker and agricultural labourer. In 1891 aged 60 he was back to being an agricultural labourer. His wife Frances died in July 1899 and William moved in with his nephew Joseph G Millard (ref RG13/2264 f33 p5).

William died on 25/2/1913 and was buried at Stogursey 3 days later. Bob Patten notes an obituary of William in the Bridgwater Mercury 5/3/1913.
