Alban Jones at Benter, nr Nettlebridge (1849-1917): age 60, 2 fiddle tunes on 12 Apr 1908: a Hornpipe and a Stepdance. Alban Bevan Jones was baptised on 9/3/1849 at Downside 2 miles south of Midsomer Norton. He was the 6th and youngest child of James Jones, agricultural labourer and his wife Eliza. On 8/10/1868 he married Ann Bryant, a collier’s daughter at Ashwick church, a mile further south. They had 11 children. Alban was a shoemaker and in 1901 the family were at Benter nr Nettlebridge (RG13/2332 f118 p14). Alban died in Oct qr 1917 aged 66 (ref 5c 503).
