Mrs Anna Pond of Shepton Beauchamp (1873-1937): age 31, 9 songs. Anna sang interesting versions of 'The Draggletail Gipsies' (FT301) and of 'The Unquiet Grave' (FT303). Her version of 'Tarry Trousers' (FT300) was published in Folk Songs from Somerset vol 2 (click vwml link above).

She was born on 24/5/1873 and baptised Anna Cornelius on 19/6/1873 at Shepton Beauchamp church. She was the 10th of 11 children of Joseph and Sarah Cornelius. Joseph also sang for Sharp. Joseph was a labourer and Sarah was a glover. Anna would be a glover (machinist) in 1881/91/1901 censuses (1901 ref is RG13/2290 f104 p15). Anna married Arthur Pond, labourer on 1/8/1895 at Shepton Beauchamp church. Arthur could not sign his name but Anna could. They lived at Pound Cottages for over 20 years and raised 6 children. Anna Pond was buried 24/6/1937 age 64.
