Benjamin Horler of West Harptree (1836-1905): age 68, 3 songs April 1904: Benjamin Horler was baptised on 17/4/1836 at Backwell (12 miles to west of Harptree), son of Job Horler (thatcher) and his wife Harriett. Benjamin moved around a bit – in 1851 he was in Blagdon, aged 15, a ‘miner’.

On 18/11/1868 aged 32 a ‘thatcher’, he married Annie Baker, 25 at Blagdon church. The register says he was a widower but there's no information on previous marriage or children involved. In 1871 the couple were back in Backwell and in 1881 they were at Ubley. They arrived in West Harptree around 1886 and raised 6 children. In 1901 (ref RG13/2329 f36 p7) Benjamin was 62, a thatcher, living in Sutton Rd West Harptree with wife and two daughters. He died in Royal Infirmary Bristol and was buried at West Harptree 24/6/1905.
