Caroline was baptised Caroline Richards on 3/3/1833 at High Ham church, daughter of Robert Richards, labourer and his wife Ann. On 6/4/1856 at High Ham church, aged 22, she married Joseph Cox, 21, son of Thomas Cox labourer. The latter could not sign his name. They had 12 children, 3 of whom died young. She lived most of her life in the same cottage Breachfurlong in High Ham. In 1871 Caroline was shown as a glover.

Joseph Cox died in May 1900 and in 1901 census Caroline was a widow aged 64 with two unmarried sons Elijah and Herbert still at home with her. In 1911 she was an OAP with 2 lodgers in her small house. She died in Oct qr 1915.
