George Radford at Bridgwater workhouse (1828-1911): age 75, 1 song 'Brisk Young Widow' (FT582) on 22 Aug 1905: George Radford was baptised on 8/6/1828 at East Brent church, son of Job Radford, master shoemaker, and wife Ann.

George never married and was at home with his parents in 1841 and 1851 censuses in East Brent. His mother died soon afterwards and his father in 1871. George had moved to Bridgwater by the 1891 census, lodging with a family on the Bath Road. By 1901 he was in the Union workhouse, aged 72, a pauper (RG13/2284 f176 p4).

His song ‘Brisk Young Widow’ (Roud 2438) was published in Folk Songs from Somerset vol3. Click vwml link above. He died in the Union Hospital and was buried at St Mary’s church 6/6/1911.
