John Briffett of Bridgwater (1832-1908): age 73, 3 songs Aug 1905: John Briffett was baptised 5/7/1832 at St Mary’s Bridgwater, son of John Briffett, labourer and Hester. In 1851 aged 19, John was working as a brickyard labourer (like his father), living at West St, Bridgwater. He was the second child and eldest son, three years older than brother William.

In Sept qr 1852 John married Selina Shield and they set up home in Pricketts Lane (which became Market St) from 1871 to 1901* censuses. They had 3 sons and 6 daughters. John was buried (by Rev Warren) at St Mary’s church on 14/11/1908.
