John Fox of West Bagborough (1840-1911): age 68, 2 songs (FT1884,6) on14 Sept 1908: John Thrasher Fox was baptised at West Bagborough church on 20/9/1840, eldest child of Charles Fox, mason and his wife Ann. John never married and seems to have been an agricultural labourer all his life. He drifted about a bit and was a boarder at the New Inn at Old Cleeve in the 1881 census. He went back to West Bagborough to live with his sister Elizabeth.

The 1901 census (RG13/2279 f81 p4) shows John Fox, 60 single, visitor, with Samuel King, 61, smith + Elizabeth King, wife 57, + two teenage sons (John’s nephews). Elizabeth died in 1902 and the men just had to cope. John was buried at West Bagborough 20/3/1911 aged 70.
