John Thorn(e) of Halse (1855-1924): age 49, 1 song ‘Golden Vanity’ (FT1103) on 3 Sept 1906: John Thorn was baptised at Halse church in Dec 1855, son of George Thorn, agricultural labourer and his wife Maria. Thenceforth his surname was always spelled with an ‘e’.

He was the eldest of 8 children. He married Hannah Parkman in Dec qr 1880 (ref Taunton 5c 585) and they had 7 children. John was working as a shepherd in Halse in 1901 census (ref RG13/2279 f40 p4). In 1911 he was a carter on a farm in Halse. He probably died 3/1924 Taunton 5c 415. There seems to be no family link with John Thorne of Alcombe, Minehead nor Richard Thorne of Withypool.
