Mrs Ellen Jarrett of Bridgwater (1854-?): age 54, 10 songs on 3 occasions commencing 7 Jan 1908: Sharp visited Mrs Jarrett again in April and August 1908, chiefly interested in her alternative tunes to various traditional songs.

Ellen Parramore was baptised at Holy Trinity Bridgwater on 5/3/1854, daughter of Robert Parramore, shoemaker and his wife Ann. In subsequent censuses the family surname just had one initial ‘r’ (Paramore). On 13/3/1876 at Holy Trinity church Ellen, 22 married Benjamin Jarrett, 34 a sailor. In 1881 they were living in West Street, Bridgwater with 2 small children. In 1901 (RG13/2283 f70 p38) Ellen Jarrett was listed as a widow, aged 47, laundress, living in Silver Street with son Frederick, aged 12, in the house of her older brother William Paramore. It’s not known when she died.
