Mrs Palmer of Langport: 1 song ‘Haymaking Courtship’ (FT389) on 2 Sept 1904: Sharp recorded no age for this singer but it was probably Maria Palmer, who was born Maria Webb in Langport (baptised 29/10/1843), daughter of James Webb, boatman and his wife Elizabeth. On 12 July 1874 she married George Palmer, baker’s assistant in Langport. In 1881 and 1891 they were living on The Hill and had 7 children. In 1901 they were at Beard’s Yd, Bow St (north side). George was a journeyman baker. In 1911 Maria was a ‘school cleaner’. She was buried at Langport church on 30 Dec 1913 age 70.
