Mrs Nicholls at Lilleshall: age 71, 1 carol ‘New Year’s Hymn’ FT2716 on 28 Oct 1911: The only Mrs Nicholls of the right age in the 1911 census for Lilleshall was Anne Nicholls, aged 70, wife of William Nicholls (RG14/16321 schedule 11):

Anne was the 2nd illegitimate child of Eleanor Colley and she was born in Muxton village (1 mile SW of Lilleshall) in 1840. Anne and her older brother George were with their mother in the care of (their) grandparents William and Elizabeth Colley in the 1851 census. Anne told Sharp that she had learned her carol from her grandfather William. Her mother Eleanor did marry Robert Fenn in 1854 but he died soon afterwards.

Anne married William Nicholls, an agricultural labourer on 22/12/1861 at Alveley, Shropshire. They had 5 children and moved from Muxton to Lilleshall by 1901. William became a mechanical engineering labourer.

It’s not yet known when Anne died.
