Richard Smith, aged 77, sang 5 songs to Sharp (FT4940-44) at Swinbrook on 19 May 1923. Swinbrook is 2 miles E of Burford.

Richard Smith was baptised at Coates, Glos, on 13 July 1849, second son of William Smith, carter and his wife Caroline. Richard married Mary Shayler at Brize Norton on 25 June 1870. In the 1881 census Richard Smith, 37, was living at Brize Norton, working as a carter, with Mary and three children. The 1921 census lists 'Richard Smith, aged 72, widower, born Coates, farm worker.' He lived with his daughter Elizabeth, who had married John Allsworth, a dairy farmer at Mill Farm, Widford nr Burford.

Richard Smith was buried at Brize Norton on 15 Nov 1927, aged 78.
