Tom Pearce at Winford (1850-1927): age 60, 2 songs ‘Barley Mow’ and ‘Cheerful Arn’ 28 Dec 1908: Thomas Pearce was born in April qr 1850 (Bedminster vol11 82) and was baptised a year later on 14/9/1851 at Winford church, son of Charles, yeoman farmer and his wife Fanny. In 1851 Winford census Thomas was listed as 11 months old, his father being a farmer of 75 acres. Tom was the 8th child but appears to have taken over the farm (shown as 112 acres in 1881 census).

Tom married Ellen Taylor on 15/5/1877 at St Paul’s Bedminster. They had 4 daughters and were assisted on the farm for over 40 years by Ellen’s brother James Taylor. The 1901 census ref is RG13/2353 f66 p4 and the 1911 census identified it as Cross Farm, Winford. Tom died Jan qr 1927 (5c 709).
