William Snow (1849-?): age 56, 1 song ‘Golden Vanity’ (FT795) on 18/1/06: William was the husband of Ellen Snow. He was born in July 1849 in Bridgwater; his father (also William) was a sailor who died in 1859, leaving his wife Ann with 6 young children to raise.

William left home early to work as a gas stoker at the Somerton collar factory according to 1871 census. It’s interesting that the only song that William Snow gave to Sharp (by letter) was a nautical song. William was laid off after 41 years at the collar factory due to a bad heart – a hurtful blow to the family (Ellen Snow letter 25/8/1910 to Sharp CJS1/13/1/10/16).
